Morning At Main Beach by Jim McVicker

2016 Best in Show:  Jim McVicker’s “Morning at Main Beach”

Each year the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) transforms Laguna Beach, the famous seaside community and historic artist colony, into an outdoor painting studio with the West Coast’s most prestigious plein air fine art event, the Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational.  The Invitational showcases the nation’s top plein air landscape painters who come to paint the town and compete for prestigious prizes. This 9-day plein air painting celebration includes public paint-outs, painting demonstrations, PleinTalk conversations, and educational events and activities.  The week culminates with the highly anticipated Collectors Gala where attendees get the first look, and opportunity to purchase, the original art created throughout the week and artists’ top three picks presented for awards consideration. The 2017 Collectors Gala will be hosted by LPAPA on Saturday October 14th at Tivoli Too, a beautiful outdoor venue surrounded by the hills of Laguna Canyon, which perfectly compliment and showcase an outstanding collection of plein air fine art. Saturday’s Collectors Gala is a ticketed event, followed by a 1-day Art Show with free entrance to the public on Sunday, October 15th, with live painting demonstrations throughout the day.

The annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational celebrates the community’s art colony legacy founded by early California impressionist and plein air painters like William Wendt, Anna Hills, Frank Cuprien and Edgar Payne who were instrumental in opening the first art gallery in Laguna Beach in 1918. LPAPA is dedicated to promoting and preserving Laguna’s artistic heritage and the tradition of plein air painting.

Proceeds from the sale of artwork help support the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art organization (Tax ID #68-0600606), and its mission to protect and preserve Laguna’s plein air legacy. Please consider supporting LPAPA by becoming a memberinvitational patroninvitational sponsor or by making a tax deductible donation.  Your support helps us continue our mission, present world class art exhibitions, create opportunities for working artists, and provide education programs for our artist members and our community through LPAPA’s Plein Air Project.
